Kia o ra e te whānau,
Despite the less than pleasant weather, we have had an amazing start to Term 3, so there are plenty of “shout outs” this week.
My first shout out goes to all of our talented students who entered the Te Tūkohu Ngāwhā Mātauranga Māori Science and Design Fair. Whaea Kathryn and I had the pleasure of attending the prizegiving where a large number of our students crossed the stage. Not only did our future scientists win placings in their respective categories, but our students also won three supreme awards. Not to be outdone, Whaea Lisa Te Whare took out the award for science teacher of the year. This was a well deserved win, Whaea Lisa spent many weekends and much of her holidays supporting our students.
Secondly, I’d like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Mr Phil. Phil runs the extension woodwork group on a Friday, he also helps out with events such as the science fair. Phil volunteers his time generously and is always willing to support our students in any way he can.
I’d like to acknowledge our awesome Robo Cup team who are off to Nelson to compete at the national finals. It is amazing to have our kura represented at an event like this. However, these talented students wouldn’t be able to attend this event if it wasn’t for the work of Whaea Jess Gibbs, who has spent countless hours fundraising to ensure our team makes it.
Lastly, I’d like to shout out to Fergus Hofmann and Hazel Iversen. I received an email from one of our sports coaches thanking them for stepping up and covering for other students. One of our hockey teams nearly defaulted, these two played a second game and were acknowledged for their excellent sportsmanship.
Ngā mihi nui,
Matua Dean & the Mokoia ‘A’ Team
