Matua Rawiri’s Shout Out

Tena Koutou Parents & Caregivers

Yesterday I was fortunate enough to listen to the Minister of Education Erica Stanford, it was a good opportunity to hear her views and share ideas around Education. The noho marae for Puarenga Learning Centre was very successful, giving the students lots of experiences and opportunities. The last noho marae for Rumaki will take place in Week 7. After 5 weeks at school things seem to be settling down and students are starting to show an understanding of the culture within our school.

Property Update:

The loft above the hall has been fully refurbished and completed with new carpet, air conditioning, repainted and autex wall. This will be a space used for small group learning and a space for Mr Upston.

Work has begun on the refurbishment of the Rumaki class, this includes new carpet, autexing all walls and leveling the floor, this should be completed in a couple of weeks.

Removal of coal bunker building and replaced with a brand new skyline shed for our caretaker, which will be happening in the school holidays.

Board News:

On Monday we had a Board hui, we hosted Louix Waru – Senior Advisor Network Ministry of Education who was invited to talk to the Board around roll growth and housing developments on Eastside – Wharenui Rise, Mansfield Road, Ngati Whakaue and TPB Vaughans Road. He discussed an enrolment zone scheme for Mokoia Intermediate. Our roll last year was 381, it is now 341. Mokoia has a capacity for a roll of 400 students. RLHS, RIS and Owhata Primary have enrolment schemes in place. Louix shared a draft enrolment zone map for Mokoia Intermediate. The first step to prepare for having an enrolment scheme in place for 2025 is a 6 week community consultation. Anyone within zone has access to Mokoia Intermediate and any current students from out of zone can remain at Mokoia when an enrolment zone scheme is put in place. Watch this space for more information.
