Matua Dean’s Shout Out

Kia ora e te whānau,

This has been an eventful week for the staff and students at Mokoia. We have had students represent the school in a number of events ranging from golf to rockclimbing. We are always very proud to the way our students conduct themselves while at these events. As a school we try our hardest to provide as many opportunities for our students to particiate in a variety of activities. I’d like to give a shout out to all the staff and parents who assist in coaching, transporting and supporting sports teams.

Our staff are committed to continually upskilling. This week they took part in maths proffesional development to stay abreast of the new curriculum changes. We had teachers completing their first aid training to help keep students safe. Another group of kaiako are taking a university paper through the University of Canterbury to extend their knowledge around approches to teaching literacy. It is great that our staff are able to model to our students what it is to be life-long learners.

Next week every class will take part in the Clued Up Camper programme. The programme provides children with the skills and confidence to take action in response to an emergency situation. St John community educators will teach our students first aid basics and knowledge to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing, along with those around them. I’d like to acknowledge work Whaea Kathryn has put in to arranging these sessions.

Ngā mihi nui,

Matua Dean on behalf of Matua Rawiri & the Mokoia ‘A’ Team

We are limitless! We are passionate! We are Mokoia!
