Whaea Kathryn’s Shout Out

Kia ora e te whānau,

It’s hard to believe we’re already over halfway through the term! We’ve accomplished so much already, and there’s still plenty more ahead to look forward to.

Last week, our students had the incredible opportunity to take part in Clued Up Camper — a free programme that equips our tamariki with essential safety skills. Our Year 7 students learned the basics of first aid, helping them feel confident in looking after themselves and others when out and about. Meanwhile, our Year 8s had the life-saving opportunity to learn CPR — an invaluable skill that could one day make all the difference. While this programme is generously provided to us at no cost, we always offer a koha using funds raised through our fluoro dress up day as a way of showing our deep appreciation. It’s a beautiful example of how our community comes together to give our students opportunities that truly matter.

Last night, Matua Dean and I had the privilege of attending the ShowQuest and Wearable Arts event at the Sir Howard Morrison Centre, alongside other proud staff members. What an unforgettable evening! Our ShowQuest students told a powerful, emotional story through movement, visuals, and collaboration — a performance that left many of us with tears in our eyes and hearts full of pride. Their incredible efforts were rewarded with third place, as well as a number of special awards. A special mention must go to Mr Law, whose tireless dedication and support of our students was also acknowledged on the night with a well-deserved award.

Our Wearable Arts students were equally outstanding. The creativity and craftsmanship in their designs were absolutely breathtaking. The amount of time, commitment, and passion that went into each piece — from both our students and the wonderful Whaea Fiona and Whaea Ellen — was evident in every detail. We celebrated a fantastic win in this category too, along with a host of other well-earned accolades.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of our students who took part, as well as the staff who continue to go above and beyond to support them in reaching their potential. Thank you all for being part of this journey — your support helps us create opportunities where our students can dream big, aim high, and shine bright.

Ngā mihi nui,

Whaea Kathryn on behalf of Matua Rawiri & the Mokoia ‘A’ Team

We are limitless! We are passionate! We are Mokoia!
