Kia ora e te whānau,
It’s hard to believe we are already approaching the mid-point of the year! This is an important time to reflect on how far our ākonga have come, and look ahead to the rest of 2025.
As many of you will know, this year has marked a significant shift in education across Aotearoa New Zealand with the introduction of the refreshed New Zealand Curriculum. This refreshed curriculum, launched via Te Mātaiaho, brings a stronger focus on:
- Deep, purposeful learning – ensuring students are learning what matters most.
- Progressions over levels – focusing on the learning journey rather than achievement levels.
- Critical capabilities for the future – such as collaboration, creativity, and resilience.
Because of these changes, our mid-year reporting will look a little different.Your child’s mid-year report will be available from Thursday 19 June on Hero under “2025 Mokoia Intermediate Learning Report”. This report will include:
- Your child’s attendance
- Curriculum progressions they have achieved
- Readiness to learn in both their classroom programme and technology
This is why it is so important that you make a time—if you haven’t already—to meet with your child’s teacher for our upcoming Whānau Conferences. These are a vital opportunity to connect, discuss your child’s learning, and set goals together.
If you are unable to attend on the designated day, please reach out to your child’s teacher to arrange a video call, phone conversation, or a time on a different day. Our students have been working incredibly hard, and our kaiako have been working even harder to support them in achieving their goals.
We’d also like to give a special mihi to our Art Extension students and Whaea Fiona, whose amazing work is currently being exhibited at the Rotorua Arts Village as part of the Kua Haehae Ngā HeiHei O Matariki / The Rays of Matariki are Spread exhibition. These talented ākonga have produced stunning pieces that reflect both creativity and deep thinking. We highly encourage you to pop in and see their mahi!
